Hoax unleashes flood of sign-ups on national do-not-call list

A widely circulated e-mail implying that cell phone numbers will be made available to telemarketers next year is a harmless hoax, but it apparently has led to a spike in registrations on the national do-not-call list, a spokeswoman for the Federal Trade Commission said Friday.
